Holy Relic of St. Basil
by Rev Fr Chris Flesoras
What a blessing it was this evening to receive the Holy Relic of St. Basil the Great at our Parish!
The Akathist Hymn that was prayed, not to mention the opportunity to venerate the Holy Relic was a blessing beyond measure. We thank Fr. Luke of St. Basil Church in Stockton for providing us this opportunity prior to its formal gifting next Sunday. For a full schedule of events of the Gifting, please visit http://www.gosaintbasil.org
I would be remiss were I not to mention the significance of this Gifting for our region. As Fr. Luke explained at the close of service, we are blessed as sister parishes to both possess Holy Relics of our matron and patron saint respectively. It’s one thing to commemorate a saint in services; it’s another thing to commemorate the saint and then have the opportunity to venerate the saint.
May our common efforts to seek and receive these relics for our parishes inspire others to do the same for their parishes throughout the United States. Little by little, let us pray that such relics being transfered to the New World, will help us establish our piety, making the ground fertile for holiness, inspiring us to seek such sanctity in our lives as well.
Again, our gratitude to Fr. Luke for affording us this blessing. May Saint Basil ever intercede on behalf of Father, his family, and the St. Basil community in Stockton.
