OSI - a balance of faith and learning

by Rev Fr Chris Flesoras

This past Tuesday - Thursday, I had the good fortune of attending the OSI Consultation at Hellenic College in Boston, the topic being “Orthodoxy and the University.”

Allow me to share a few thought:

Orthodoxy is a gift that we have received. Regardless of our vocation in life, it is a gift that we are meant to share. It seems its just a matter of discerning how we are to sincerely do so in a matter authentic to our person.

Many of those who gathered were university professors who share their Faith in the classroom, the lab, in office hours, in writings, and through fellowship with peers and students alike. The papers that they presented were testament that these professors are not only great academics, but also informed and pious Orthodox Christians. Finding this balance in faith and learning was truly humbling and all the while inspiring. May our Lord continue to guide and inspire these men and women in their vocation. And, may our recent high school graduates be blessed to have such Christian mentors as they advance into the realm of higher education.
